Day 22 of my Dark Dark Days of December Challenge – the best ways to combat the winter blues
The days are still short and dark, but we’re inching closer to the light returning. The garden may look quiet, but today I had a surprising encounter with a tiny burst of life: a dandelion in bloom.
Flowers in Winter – Nature’s Resilience
While strolling around the garden to refill the bird feeders, I spotted a flash of yellow nestled near the lawn’s edge. A dandelion! At first, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Dandelions are a symbol of resilience, popping up in the unlikeliest places and now, even in the depths of December, here it was.
A closer look revealed its sunny face turned toward the weak winter light. Seeing a flower like this in December reminds me of nature’s ability to adapt and thrive. It’s a tiny bit of summer lingering in the cold, a reminder that even in the darkest times, life continues.
Noticing the Small Things
I bent down to examine it, marveling at its simple beauty. Dandelions often go unnoticed or are even considered weeds, but to me, they’re a gift from nature. It’s these small moments that bring me joy and lift my spirits during the darker days of winter.
Have you spotted anything flowering in your garden? If not, take a moment to step outside today and see what’s around. You might be surprised at what you find!
